Arsenal is said to have held conversations with Real Madrid executives and former Chelsea attacker Eden Hazard.
The 30-year-old has fallen out of favour at the Santiago Bernabeu after failing to match his achievements at Stamford Bridge. Hazard has been plagued by injury problems in Madrid, and the Belgian forward appears to be on the verge of leaving the club.
Hazard is reportedly a target for Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta, according to French outlet Foot Mercato (via Metro). The Gunners are reportedly looking to sign the veteran forward on a loan with a purchase option. He could make a sensational return to the Premier League.
It would be akin to the club's acquisition of Martin Odeegard from Real Madrid. Hazard, on the other hand, is said to desire to finish his deal with the La Liga leaders, which extends until 2024.
Would Eden Hazard, a former Chelsea star, have an impact at Arsenal?
Hazard is widely regarded as one of the best wingers in Premier League history. However, given his fitness troubles at Madrid, there may be concerns over whether the Belgian can still make an impact.
Hazard has only made 65 appearances in three years with La Liga leaders Barcelona. He has struggled to adjust to life at the Bernabeu, scoring six goals and assisting ten times in 65 appearances for the Spanish club. Chelsea supporters may be dismayed to learn that one of their team's heroes has joined their cross-city rivals. Hazard was a tremendous hit with the Blues throughout his time there. In his final game for the club before joining Real Madrid, he won the Premier League twice, the FA Cup, and the UEFA Europa League.
Chelsea fans were devastated by his £103.5 million move to Los Blancos, and there will undoubtedly be hostility if he chooses to join their London rivals.
Cesc Fabregas, who joined Chelsea from Barcelona in 2014, made a similar move. Prior to returning to Barcelona in 2011, he was an Arsenal legend, serving as the Gunners' main man in the early parts of his career.
Hazard's outstanding run at Stamford Bridge, which earned him the PFA Player of the Year award in 2019, will be hoped for by the Emirates faithful.
